Sharjah Baby-Friendly

The first of its kind in the country and the whole region, the Sharjah Baby-Friendly Emirate’ Campaign (SBFC)has been ordered by His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi in February 2011 (Decree 04), and been launched by Her Highness Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi in March 2012.

The SBFC is based on the WHO and UNICEF International Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI), launched in 1991, and promoted by UAE Ministry of Health (Maternal and Child Health Central Administration) since 1993. In Sharjah, beside the health facilities, the SBFC has been extended to include nurseries, public places and workplaces.
